CONSTANTINE CULTURE CENTRE

The Culture Centre consists of a Main Theatre, Library and Museum complex as an integrated coherent relationship combining culture, education and the Arts in the University Precinct of Constantine. The concept provides a unique opportunity to reinforce the precinct in a symbolic interpretation of the regional culture of Algeria as an inspiration to the lifestyle of the region that incorporates elements to express both the past cultures and for the future of Algeria in the culture. The physical location of the cultural center proposed has resulted from an extensive analysis of options to address the context of the existing surrounding developments. The proposed concept is seen as the ultimate solution for the most suitable location incorporates master planning principles of both the existing Medical and University precincts. Due to the characteristics of the site, a feasibility including “cut and fill” studies of the sloping topography was carried out providing the most economical and the most appropriate solution for the siting of the buildings. The ultimate location proposed, planning and urban design criteria, resulted in the desire for a strong visual connection from the main road arrival area was a key principle incorporated in the design of the Culture Centre as an integrate project. The design concept envisages a majestic central axis which will provide a memorable experience that can be enjoyed by the visitor to the Cultural Centre. The terraced stepped gardens, reflecting pools of water and formal landscaped surrounding leading up to the Culture Centre. The terraced gardens proposed will be a feature comparable with other Cultural Centers around the World.
